MDMA Assisted Psychotherapy is an exciting addition to my practice. MDMA, more commonly known by it's street names "molly" or "ecstasy", when used in a therapeutic setting has been shown to be effective in reducing symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). MDMA is also showing promising impacts on other mental health disorders including general anxiety, social anxiety, eating disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and general well being. In December of 2021 I completed part I of the MAPS MDMA Assisted Psychotherapy training. Part II of the training will not be available until MDMA is reclassified as a legal substance. Once this reclassification has been made, I will apply for part II of this important training. Due MDMA's current classification as Schedule I substance, I will not work with it my practice until such time as the substance is reclassified and I am able to complete the MAPS clinical course work. I will update my website as I have more information about timelines for completing the second part of the training and provision of MDMA assisted psychotherapy.
Currently MAPS sponsored clinical trials are the only legal way to participate in MDMA assisted therapy. If you are interested in learning more about participating in the MAPS clinical trials click here.
There are individuals providing MDMA (as well as other psychedelics) assisted psychotherapy in an "underground", illegal, and unregulated way. I do not recommend unregulated treatment as it leaves open the possibilities of working with untrained, unlicensed, and unregulated "providers", leaving the recipient of the treatment open to harm with little recourse to correct or report any issues or challenges that may arise during treatment. If you decide to undergo an "underground" treatment, I recommend vetting your "guide" thoroughly.
The links below are for recent media publications and broadcasts about the potential harms that can come from unregulated psychedelic assisted psychotherapies. I encourage anyone considering an "underground" treatment to explore these materials, as they may help you in making the decision on how, when, and with whom to enter a psychedelic assisted treatment.

If you feel you have been harmed by a therapist who is providing psychedelic assisted therapy, please contact the board associated with the individual provider's license:
CA Board of Psychology (for psychologists and psychological assistants)
CA Board of Behavioral Sciences (for all other licensed providers)
If you feel you have been harmed by a non-licensed "guide" providing psychedelic treatment, please reach out to your local non-emergency police department and inquire about filing a complaint.
